Dallas
Wow! It's snowing like crazy here! What is going on!!!
Okay, since I've been here I've accidentally broken my buddy's truck (by, I guess, sitting in it); I've spotted a dead dog while driving through "the hood" on the way to rehearsal. I've woken up to 4 inches of snow outside my window, AND (not least of all and perhaps most amazing) I've witnessed The Saints win the Superbowl! What's going on?
Luckily, I'm really enjoying my time here working on this opera and getting to know my colleagues. I never cease to be amazed at how kind most of my colleagues are. For those musicians out there that have never worked professionally you'll be happy to know that we are not much different than all of you. There are a few character quirks which develope over the years due to excess travel, living in foreign countries and the general stress which accompanies public performance and criticism, but I like to think of that as "interesting" and not "annoying". One fun aspect to working here in Dallas is that for those of us who are car-less we travel back and forth to rehearsal together in a big "church van". Our driver and "confidant" created the rule "what's said in the van, stays in the van". It's like Los Vegas in the van :) Lots and lots of fun
