On October 11, Nathan performs in the West Coast premiere of Hubble Cantata at the Ford Theatres in Los Angeles. Composed by Paola Prestini with a libretto by Royce Vavrek and featuring Eliza McNitt’s virtual reality film, Fistful of Stars, Hubble Cantata also includes soprano Jessica Rivera, LA Opera Orchestra, LA Opera Chorus and Los Angeles Children’s Chorus.
Later in October, as part of the two-year celebration of composer Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday, Nathan sings Arias and Barcarolles in Chicago on October 24 and in New York City on October 29 for Harris Theater and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. This high-spirited evening of vocal and instrumental chamber works also features Susanna Phillips, Tamara Mumford, Nicholas Phan, Sebastian Knauer, Anne-Marie McDermott and the Escher String Quartet.
Nathan returns to the Metropolitan Opera, singing one of his signature roles (Papageno) in Julie Taymor’s enchanting production of The Magic Flute conducted by Evan Rogister. Performances run November 25, 30; December 4, 7, and 9.
Nathan closes 2017 with a continued celebration of Bernstein 100 in London, with two concert performances of Wonderful Town at Barbican Hall on December 16 and 21. Nathan sings the role of Bob Baker and is joined by Danielle de Niese as Eileen in a performance conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.
