Nathan Makes His House Debut at English National Opera
31 Jan 2019
This March, Nathan Gunn makes his house debut at English National Opera as Count Danilo in Franz Lehár‘s comic masterpiece, The Merry Widow. Featuring memorable operetta melodies like “Vilja Song” and “Merry Widow Waltz,” the operetta centers on the relationship between the dazzling and wealthy widow Hanna and her former flame, Count Danilo.
Nathan previously portrayed Danilo at the Metropolitan Opera, opposite Renée Fleming in 2015. WQXR critic David Patrick Stearns praised Nathan’s performance, writing “baritone Nathan Gunn was [a] bright spot as Count Danilo.”
The talented baritone is joined by ENO favorites Sarah Tynan as the titular widow and Andrew Shore as Zeta. Director Max Webster (The Lorax) and Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska also make their house debuts in this new production.
Performances run March 1, 6, 8, 9, 15, 22, 27, 29; April 1, 4, and 13, 2019.
